My Breakdown Cover

Eversure Breakdown Cover Review

Eversure is one of the cheapest routes to fairly complete breakdown cover: on our checked prices, Gold vehicle cover — roadside, national recovery, home start and onward travel — costs £23.20 a year, a fraction of big-brand pricing. It's a Guildford-based insurance broker (established 2008, FCA-authorised), not a rescue firm: policies are underwritten by Collinson Insurance and breakdowns handled by independent contractors, and it holds a 4.5/5 Trustpilot score across 2,136 breakdown-specific reviews plus a Feefo Platinum Trusted Service Award 2026.

Read those stars carefully, though: the overwhelming majority of 5-star reviews describe the buying experience, not a rescue. The complaints cluster around auto-renewal charged early and hard to escape, no phone line for account admin, and — in the worst cases — contractors who don't turn up. Cheap and well-run at the point of sale; read the small print below before trusting it at the roadside.

Eversure breakdown cover plans explained

Silver, Gold and Platinum

The tiers are simpler than the names suggest. Silver covers roadside assistance, local recovery (up to 25 miles to a suitable garage), national recovery, onward travel and overnight accommodation — but not breakdowns at home and not misfuelling. Gold adds Home Assist (at or within 1 mile of home) plus misfuel draining with 10 litres of the correct fuel. And Platinum? Genuinely unclear before you buy: the Gold and Platinum IPIDs are word-for-word identical, so whatever separates the two tiers — including the benefit caps — only appears on your Certificate of Insurance after quote stage. That's a transparency gap we'd like to see fixed.

Two limits apply across all tiers. The recovery operator spends up to 60 minutes attempting a repair at the roadside — parts and any labour beyond that hour are always at your cost. And onward travel's hire vehicle runs for up to 48 hours, with monetary caps "as shown on Your Certificate of Insurance": the public policy wording publishes no amounts.

Vehicle, personal and European cover

Vehicle cover is available for vehicles under 20 years old. Personal cover — following you in any car you drive or ride in — is narrower than most rivals': cars and motorbikes up to 15 years old only, with vans, motorhomes and campervans excluded and size caps of 3.5 tonnes and 7 metres. European cover comes as a single trip from 1 day or an annual policy covering multiple trips of up to 90 days each; the trip must begin and end in the UK, and on European motorways the official operator usually recovers you, with the policy reimbursing the charges. Optional extras on the Gold IPID include caravan and trailer cover, key cover (reimbursement-based, capped at £50 for a key broken in a lock), vehicle excess protection and guaranteed vehicle hire.

Prices and the small print worth knowing

On our checked prices (21 September 2026): Gold vehicle cover £23.20 a year, Platinum £28.50, Silver personal cover £49.33, Gold personal £52.76 and European cover £50.28. Eversure advertises cover from £17.47 a year on its own site. The performance claims alongside those prices — a 46-minute average response, 85% of vehicles fixed at the roadside — are self-reported, with no methodology or measurement period published and no independent verification we could find. The exclusions are where a cheap policy earns its price, and Eversure's list deserves a careful read:

  • No claims within 48 hours of buying a new policy (waived on continuous renewals) — if you're already broken down, this policy won't help today.
  • No assistance after an accident, theft, fire or vandalism, claims are capped at £15,000 per policy year, and repeat callouts for the same fault within 28 days aren't covered unless the vehicle was repaired at a garage in between.
  • Your vehicle must carry a serviceable spare wheel or repair kit and jack where the manufacturer supplied one; specialist equipment (winching, skates, a crane) is excluded if the vehicle is off the public highway, modified or lowered, or obstructed; and recovery costs can be limited to the vehicle's market value.
  • Cancellation is strict: a full refund only within the 14-day cooling-off period if you haven't claimed — after that, no refund at all for the remaining term.
  • If you chose a policy excess, it's taken over the phone before help is dispatched.

Eversure breakdown cover: pros and cons

Pros

  • Genuinely cheap headline pricing — annual vehicle cover from £17.47 and the comparison data shows Gold at £23.20/yr, a fraction of big-brand pricing (eversure.com/breakdown/ + site deals data)
  • Well-reviewed at aggregate level: 4.5/5 from 2,136 reviews on the breakdown-specific Trustpilot page and a 4.5/5 Feefo service rating across 13,000+ verified reviews, with a Feefo Platinum Trusted Service Award 2026 (Trustpilot/Feefo, checked 2026-09-21)
  • Buying experience is consistently praised as fast and simple, including by older customers (recurring theme across Trustpilot and Feefo reviews read 2026-09-21)
  • Even mid-tier cover is fairly complete: Gold includes roadside, national recovery, home start, onward travel with up to 48 hours' hire car, overnight accommodation and misfuel draining with 10 litres of fuel (Gold IPID V2.0)
  • Underwritten by an established PRA/FCA-regulated insurer, Collinson Insurance / Astrenska Insurance Limited (FRN 202846), with Eversure itself FCA-authorised (FRN 501311) (policy wording, IPID, TOBA)
  • Flexible structure: vehicle-based or personal cover, three tiers, European single-trip from 1 day or annual with up to 90-day trips (site pages + policy wording)

Cons

  • 48-hour exclusion window after buying a new policy — you cannot claim for any breakdown in the first two days, which catches out several reviewers (Policy Wording V2.0; confirmed in Eversure's own review replies)
  • No refund whatsoever after the 14-day cooling-off period, and auto-renewal complaints are the most common negative theme: payment taken up to a week or more early, opt-out friction and slow refunds (Gold IPID V2.0; Trustpilot reviews read 2026-09-21)
  • No patrols of its own — rescues are dispatched to independent contractors, and the worst-case reviews describe 3+ hour motorway waits and broker deflection when a contractor fails (policy wording definitions; 1-star Trustpilot reviews read 2026-09-21)
  • Hard to reach a human for account admin: no general phone line, portal/webform/chat only, a persistent complaint theme (Trustpilot reviews read 2026-09-21)
  • Meaningful small print: no help after accidents/theft/fire/vandalism, £15,000 annual claims cap, 28-day repeat-fault exclusion, specialist-equipment exclusion, spare-wheel requirement, and roadside labour capped at 60 minutes (Policy Wording V2.0)
  • Transparency gaps: Gold and Platinum IPIDs are identical so tier differences and benefit caps only appear at quote/certificate stage; response-time and fix-rate claims are self-published with no stated methodology; no Defaqto rating exists to benchmark cover quality
  • European cover is narrower than reviewers expect: recover-to-nearest-local-garage only, vehicle must be fully immobilised, trip must start/end in the UK, and motorway recoveries abroad work on reimbursement of the official operator's charges (policy wording; Eversure's replies on its own reviews widget)

What Eversure customers say

Ratings below are third-party review scores and provider-published expert ratings, shown with their source and the date we checked them. They are other people's experiences, not ours — and star ratings on their own hide the pattern, so we also summarise what recent reviewers praise and complain about.

What recent reviewers praise

  • Price is the headline draw: reviewers repeatedly describe premiums as noticeably cheaper than the big-name providers and good value for the cover level chosen, with several saying it was the best deal they found when comparing.
  • Buying and renewing online is quick and painless: the recurring refrain across Trustpilot and the Feefo reviews shown on Eversure's own site is an easy-to-navigate website, a clear quote process, and a purchase completed in minutes — including from older customers who single out the site's simplicity.
  • Cover feels easy to tailor: reviewers like being able to pick between tiers and options (vehicle vs personal basis, European add-on) without pressure, and describe the pricing and cover descriptions as clear at the point of sale.
  • Support staff get praise when actually reached: several reviewers describe helpful agents sorting policy amendments via chat or messages, and Eversure visibly replies to negative reviews on its Feefo widget. Caveat observed while reading: the overwhelming majority of 5-star reviews describe the purchase experience, not an actual rescue.

Where the complaints cluster

  • Auto-renewal is the single loudest complaint: multiple reviewers report being charged up to 7-9 days before the renewal date, finding it hard to switch auto-renewal off, and waiting a long time for cancellation requests and refunds to be actioned.
  • Reaching a human is hard: reviewers repeatedly complain there is no phone line for account queries (portal/webform/chat only), that forms time out or go unanswered for days, and that renewal or cancellation therefore drags on.
  • When a rescue goes wrong it can go badly wrong: a minority of reviewers describe multi-hour waits (including 3+ hours stranded on a motorway in summer heat), contractor recovery firms failing to turn up, and frustration that Eversure, as a broker, deflects responsibility to the assistance provider.
  • European callouts generate disputes: reviewers describe documentation demands before help was sent, slow claim resolution (one taking nearly a month), and surprise at the cover's limits abroad — Eversure's own review replies confirm the policy only responds to a fully immobilised vehicle and recovers to a local garage, not to a dealer of your choice. A few also cite the 48-hour no-claim window immediately after purchase catching them out.

How Eversure compares

Against the other budget providers, Eversure holds its own. On the same 21 September 2026 dataset, Rescuemycar.com starts at £16 a year and Emergency Assist at £19.32 — both below Eversure's £23.20 entry point — but Eversure's Gold packs roadside, national recovery, home start and onward travel into that one price, where the cheapest rival deals are local-recovery-only. Start Rescue's entry deal is £31.58. All of them work the same way: no patrols of their own, independent contractors dispatched to you. The vehicle cover comparison shows the feature-by-feature picture, and our tips for cheaper breakdown cover help you avoid paying for cover you don't need.

Against the AA and RAC, the trade is stark: their cheapest deals we track start at £85 and £77 respectively — three times Eversure's — but both run employed patrol fleets that usually fix cars at the kerb, while Eversure's worst reviews describe 3+ hour motorway waits, contractors failing to arrive, and a broker deflecting responsibility to the assistance provider when they do. Eversure's 16% 1-star share on its breakdown Trustpilot page (against the AA's 6%) is the honest measure of that gap. There's also no phone line for account queries — fine until something goes wrong.

On expert ratings, there is less to go on than usual: we could find no publicly verifiable Defaqto star rating for Eversure breakdown cover and no Which? review or recommendation, so we make no claim about either. Its verifiable award is the Feefo Platinum Trusted Service Award 2026, backed by a 4.5/5 Feefo service rating across more than 13,000 verified reviews — though those span all its products, from camera to caravan insurance, not just breakdown. Eversure breakdown cover: FAQs

Who actually comes out when you break down with Eversure?
Not Eversure. It's a specialist insurance broker, not an insurer or a recovery firm — policies are underwritten by Collinson Insurance (a trading name of Astrenska Insurance Limited, FRN 202846), and rescues are handled by independent technicians dispatched through the underwriter's 24-hour UK claims line. Eversure publishes a 46-minute average response time and an 85% roadside fix rate, but those figures are self-reported with no methodology or measurement period stated.
Can you claim as soon as you've bought an Eversure policy?
No. The policy wording excludes any claim within 48 hours of buying a new policy — a window that catches out a few reviewers each year, and one Eversure's own replies to reviews confirm. It's waived when a policy renews continuously, but if you're already broken down, an Eversure policy bought today won't help you. Some big-name providers will sell instant cover over the phone instead.
Does Eversure Silver cover breakdowns at home?
No. On the IPIDs, Silver includes roadside assistance, local recovery (up to 25 miles to a suitable garage), national recovery, onward travel and overnight accommodation — but not Home Assist and not misfuel cover. Home Assist (at or within 1 mile of home) and misfuel draining with 10 litres of the correct fuel arrive at Gold. Since flat batteries most often strike at home, that's a gap worth pricing in.
Does Eversure auto-renew, and can you get a refund if you cancel?
Policies auto-renew, and this is Eversure's single loudest complaint theme: reviewers report being charged up to 7–9 days before the renewal date, friction switching auto-renewal off, and slow refunds. On refunds the small print is strict — a full refund only within the 14-day cooling-off period (if you haven't claimed), and after that no refund at all for the remaining term. There's also no general phone line for account admin; it's portal, webform or chat only.
Is Eversure European breakdown cover any good?
It's cheap — £50.28 a year on our checked prices — but narrower than reviewers expect. The policy only responds when the vehicle is fully immobilised, recovers to a local garage rather than a dealer of your choice, and requires the trip to start and end in the UK. On most European motorways local law forces the official motorway operator to recover you, and the policy reimburses those charges rather than sending its own contractor. Reviewers describe documentation demands before help was sent and one claim taking nearly a month to resolve. Our European breakdown cover guide explains what to look for.
